What is the Food Safety Modernization Act and Why Does it Matter?

The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) was passed by Congress in 2011 and aims to shift the FDA’s focus from reaction to prevention by allowing the FDA to make and enforce regulations intended to prevent food contamination before the product reaches the consumer.  However, the cost and complexity of these proposed rules have the potential to put a significant strain on small producers.  The Co-op Food Stores have posted further details and information on how you can get involved:
