'A Long Resolution'

Last month farmers Alice and Larry Allen signed the documents protecting their 62 acre farm in Newbury and becoming UVLT's first officially completed project of the fiscal year.

The Allens have had a long road to achieve their conservation goal but it is a wonderful story to share.  Alice reflects back upon the tugs at her gut and her heart that helped to form the farming goals that she carried from a young age until now.  Read Alice's story here.

Following the Golden Rule at 'Art in the Wild'

Last year Programs Coordinator Anna Slack visited the inaugural session of the Art in the Wild camp interested to see just exactly what happens on a piece of land after it is conserved for public enjoyment.

This year she is reminded that the impact of an experience can be loud, or soft but it can always be heard if you just listen for it.

Sunday Stroll leader & UVLT Trustee Roger Hanlon and participant Beckey Hirschey share the fun and interesting things they found on a recent Sunday Stroll in Thetford.

UVLT and Roger Hanlon are creating an email notification list for these hikes; if you would like to be included in the list please contact Programs Coordinator,  Anna Slack.

Before Trail Work

Save the Date!

In the coming weeks UVLT and many wonderful volunteers will be making trail improvements at Zebedee Wetlands in Thetford, VT thanks to a Memorial Fund held by the Thetford Conservation Commission in memory of Linny Levin.

A trail dedication ceremony is planned later this fall to honor this dear friend, neighbor, naturalist and teacher - more information to come!

Giving Trends

The Who and Where of Giving

The Chronicle of Philanthropy recently published a study charting the giving patterns across the United States.  The data is compiled into an online interactive tool and special report called ‘How America Gives’ where you can access everything from national trends to the giving done within your zip code.

The study found several interesting trends such as:

·           People Who Make the Least Amount of Money Donate the Most

·            People Who Know the Stories of Need are More Likely to Donate

Also surprising was the low national ranking of Vermont and New Hampshire within this study; we do not feel this is representative of the generosity of UVLT supporters!

Your charitable gifts are what allow us to continue to help people achieve their conservation goals.  Last year we turned every donated dollar into nearly $7 of conservation value here in the Upper Valley.

Help us stay strong this year, donate today!
