UVLT interns 2013

Thank You Interns!

We had the pleasure of working with three wonderful interns this summer!  We would like to thank and recognize them for the contributions they made.

Craig Privett joined us as our Vermont Law School legal intern.  In his time with us Craig completed countless hours of legal and policy research and real estate documentation for our conservation staff.  Craig returned to Vermont Law School to complete his final year of law school but he isn’t gone for good!  Craig still returns to UVLT to lend a hand with legal research and other projects. He is hoping to work in land conservation after he graduates.

Jessica Buckey was our Patchen Miller Intern.  Jessica grew up in the Upper Valley where her love of hiking and nature frequently led her outdoors.   This summer she met with Upper Valley residents who have protected their land and talked about their experiences with land conservation.  Each person had a unique story to tell and Jessica compiled her recordings into five short films that speak to conservation, history, ecology, and even a little about farming here in the Upper Valley!  We will début the films on our YouTube channel later this fall.  Jessica has returned to Yale for her Junior year where she is pursuing a degree in Geology and Geophysics.

Fuller Henriques interned with our Stewardship department this summer.  Just prior to his arrival at UVLT, Fuller injured his ankle and arrived with a cast but that didn’t slow him down!  He helped out with a variety of projects until he was more mobile including testing his artistic ability by painting trail signs! Once he healed Fuller shifted his focus to help develop UVLT’s trail assessment protocol required by recent changes to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  His research and field testing led to methods that are simple and efficient – and recently received accolades from the US Forest Service’s National Accessibility Program Manager!  Fuller will return to Bates this spring after a fall study-abroad program.  He plans to major in Environmental Studies.

Helen Chatfield was the driving force behind the establishment of the Bradford Conservation Commission in the early 1990s.  Now, Helen’s daughter Lora Chatfield has decided to protect “Helen’s Haven” forever by donating a conservation easement on the 76-acre forest tract to the Upper Valley Land Trust.  The Bradford Conservation Commission is assisting with this project by dedicating the proceeds from its annual appeal for the Bradford Conservation Fund to go toward costs associated with a conservation easement.
